Freshman delivers another shutout as Vulcans sweep Holy Names

UH-Hilo freshman Alexis Lacy fired her third straight shutout with a four-hitter over Holy Names on Wednesday at the Vulcans’ field.

The left-hander (3-0) hasn’t allowed a run over her last 19 innings. She lowered her ERA to 1.81 in 27 innings and three starts. She walked one and struck out two in the 3-0 win.

The Vulcans scored two in the first inning and a run in the sixth. In the first, Brandee Chinen had an RBI single, and Taisha Bratton had a fielder’s choice RBI. In the sixth, UHH scored an unearned run.

Haighley Kissee took the loss.

Chinen batted 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored to lead the Vulcans, who managed five hits.

In Game 2, a 6-2 UHH victory, Sara Bhatt pitched six innings of one-run ball for the win. Bhatt (5-1) walked three and whiffed two. Freshman Tehani Seto pitched the final inning and allowed a run.

Dezirrae Simon pitched 1 1/3 innings of one-run ball in the loss for the Hawks (4-20, 2-11).

Bratton hit a solo homer in the third. Chinen had a two-run double in the fourth, and Chloe Domingo hit an RBI single in the sixth.

Chinen batted 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Bratton went 1 for 4 with an RBI and two runs, and Domingo had two hits for the Vulcans, who had eight hits.

UHH (9-4, 7-2 PacWest) next plays Dominican (7-15, 4-9) in a four-game series starting at noon Sunday at the Vulcans’ field.

The Vulcans are second in the conference behind Concordia (20-0, 8-0).
